"A week before Thanksgiving, we were having our old house waterproofed when we discovered a massive plumbing problem: old, decaying clay sewer pipes and a basement toilet with no pipe—open directly to the sewer pipe through a hole in the concrete foundation. The basement reeked of sewer, and we couldn’t use our heater because it would circulate the smell and methane through the house. The waterproofing job came to a screeching halt as we desperately searched for a plumber to fix this problem.
Unlike several others we called, Winchester Plumbing & Gas responded right away, assessed the situation, and gave us a fair quote. They arrived when they said they’d arrive, left when they said they’d leave, billed us as quoted, and did such a great job that the waterproofers, when they came back to finish their job, commented several times on the quality plumbing work.
So when we were ready to replace the plumbing in the entire house, it didn’t take long for us to choose Winchester Plumbing & Gas over another plumber who gave us a much lower bid. For something like plumbing, you want the job done right, and we’d already seen firsthand that Winchester Plumbing & Gas would not cut corners. They actually saved us money in the long run, because they discovered shoddy work that another plumber had done before we found them. Had they not discovered and corrected the jerry-rigged work, our toilet would have eventually leaked through the floor, and we would never have known until it was a horrible mess (and much more costly, both for our health and our wallet).
Rodney, the owner of Winchester Plumbing & Gas, assigned four men to our job, who showed up when they said they’d show up, and left when they said they’d leave. They were all polite, courteous, friendly, and quiet, and I felt quite safe with them in the house even when my husband was gone. They asked permission to come in the house, told me when they were leaving for lunch, and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves. They were a pleasure to have around, and treated me, my boys, and our home with respect.
Rodney responded promptly to all emails and phone calls, and communicated thoroughly and specifically with us, with a very professional attitude that assumed the best about us. All his interaction and conversation with us was reasonable, intelligent, and clear. And when we had questions or ran into problems, he demonstrated an unusual level of honesty and integrity that stunned us. It was clear his primary goal was to exceed our expectations. And he did. They worked on our house while my husband was out of town, and when my husband came back, he noticed they’d put a pipe in the wrong place instead of where they’d discussed. We were really worried about even telling them since they’d done such a great job and the work was so extensive. But in the end, we decided to at least mention it, since it impacted how we were able to use the area in the future. Rodney responded immediately, and he amazed us with his professionalism and kindness. He insisted they would redo the work (at no extra charge) and would make sure we were completely happy with the job. He told us to get a good night’s rest, and that he would come over first thing in the morning to take a look and make things right. He did. In no time at all, they’d not only cheerfully fixed the issue, but filled in the original pipe hole, and even painted it to match the wall so we could hardly tell there’d been any work done. We quickly learned this is just the way they do business—they back up their work and will not leave a client unhappy. The way they handled what could’ve been a potential conflict impressed us so much that we will never use anyone else.
The work they did for us took about four days altogether (not counting the weekend that interrupted the work time), and Rodney was very clear that we would not pay him anything until all the work was completed and we were thoroughly happy with the job. He was as good as his word, and our invoice was just what we’d agreed on, in spite of various on-the-job issues that arose. The job took longer than they expected, simply because they took the time to do a quality job, even if that meant redoing something or not taking the easy way out of a problem. I never once heard any of the men complain or display anything less than a can-do, positive, professional attitude. They seemed sincerely happy to help us and took pride in the quality of their work.
We’ve lived in this house for almost five years, and our plumbing has never worked as well as it does now. They solved all our known plumbing problems and even some we weren’t aware we had. We are so grateful we decided to go with Winchester Plumbing & Gas for our plumbing replacement. They have earned our deepest respect, and we enthusiastically recommend them for any plumbing job.
